Recognition, assessment and management of a deteriorating Patient Communicating through a patient’s journey

This one-day course aims to highlight effective communication strategies, which can help to prevent adverse events occurring.

At the end of the course participants should be able to:
• Verbalize effective communication to members of the healthcare team utilizing an SBAR (Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation) format
• Develop strategies to deal with the issue of breaking bad news to a patient or a relative e.g. the SPIKES six-step protocol
• Understand the importance of summoning prompt assistance in an emergency situation
• Demonstrate professionalism when communicating with patients and relatives
